ISLAMABAD: Students of twin cities are facing transport problem due to the non-availability of CNG and petrol shortage to reach their educational institutes in time.
The non-availability of CNG for over a week and long queues of vehicles at petrol pumps have caused shortage of public transport in cities while overcharging of private transport is also testing the nerves of the students.
According to various surveys, thousands of people travel within twin cities on daily basis and majority of them are students belonging to the schools, colleges and universities.
Most of the educational institutions were opened after week long winter vacations but due to lack of transport, many students were unable to attend their classes and the educational institutions were still functioning with thin attendance.
"I use my private transport to reach my college while absence of fuel was the hurdle to drive my vehicle and overcharging of taxis is the main reason for not attending my classes," Habiba Khan, a student said.
She said, the buses are overloaded with male students that keeps females hesitant to take risk of traveling on buses and wagons.
The chilly weather and dense fog in wee hours has kept the people to stay inside their homes and now the unavailability of fuel has also affected the business of pick and drop services for educational institutions, Sohail Afzal, a college van driver said.
"Providing pick and drop services to the students was my only way of earning and after winter vacations, the business is still in loss as we charge students according to CNG rates and the rates of Petrol are high which is a constant loss for taxi and van drivers," he said.
A large number of students come from the different localities of twin cities to their institutions and have to face inconvenience in packed public transport vehicles, besides maltreatment by drivers and conductors.
