KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 73,876 tonnes of cargo comprising 47,387 tonnes of import cargo and 26,489 tonnes of export cargo including 2,044 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday.
The total import cargos of 47,387 tonnes comprised of 14,654 tonnes of containerised cargo; 686 tonnes of general cargo; 5,967 tonnes of bulk cargo and 26,080 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargos of 26,489 tonnes comprised of 11,409 tonnes of containerised cargo and 15,080 tonnes of bulk cargo.
As many as 2,044 containers comprising of 1,118 containers of import and 926 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 317 of 20's and 301 of 40's loaded while 05 of 20's and 97 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 305 of 20's and 147 of 40's loaded containers while 175 of 20's and 76 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were five ships namely CSCL Sophie, Hyundai Paramount, Sea Rider, Trugen and Universe-1 carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were two vessels carrying containers currently at the berths.
A cargo volume of 96,694 tonnes comprising of 76,592 tonnes of import cargo and 20,102 tonnes of export cargo including 1,253 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The total import cargo of 76,592 tonnes includes 34,253 tonnes of coal; 12,500 tonnes of palm oil; 13,075 tonnes of diesel oil; 12,319 tonnes of soyabean; 740 tonnes of LPG and 3,705 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo of 20,102 tonnes includes 20,102 tonnes of containerised cargo.
As many as 1,253 containers comprising of 195 containers import and 1,058 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
There was one ship namely Jeppesen Maersk containers sailed out to sea on Monday morning, while three more ships namely Princess Margo, Gas Amazon and Esstar carrying coal, LPG and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of seven ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, soyabean, LPG, diesel oil and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
As many as ten vessels viz. Aristo Mens, ER Tianshan, Express Athens, Star Fighter, Daphne, Lito, Gas Zeus, Gas Arma, Ejnan and Gulf Crystal carrying containers, coal, soyabean, LPG, LNG and diesel oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
There were four ships viz. ER Tianshan, Star Fighter, Gas Arma and Ejnan carrying containers, coal, LPG and LNG respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, SSGC LPG Terminal and Engro Elengy Terminal respectively on Monday.
There are two ships namely Maersk Chicago and APL New York carrying containers due to arrive on Tuesday.
