BOGOTA: Colombia produced 1.19 million 60-kg bags of washed arabica coffee in May, the national coffee federation said on Wednesday, up 6pc on the same month last year.

In May 2019, Colombia recorded coffee production of 1.12 million bags.

Coffee exports last month fell 15pc to 871,000 bags, from 1.03 million bags in May 2019.

Export levels fell in May due to lower flow of transport at ports due to restrictions implemented to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus, a federation spokeswoman said.

Colombia's total production rose 9pc to 14.8 million bags in 2019, owing to favorable conditions for coffee cultivation, the federation said in January.

Exports last year were up 7pc on 2018 levels.
