Published June 5, 2020

During the ongoing protests in the United States, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi outside the Indian embassy in Washington DC was vandalised with graffiti and spray painting.

Reportedly, 'racist' was spray-painted on the statue's base. The incident is reported to have taken place between June 2 and June 3, amid nationwide protests against the killing of African-American George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25.

The vandalized statue of Gandhi, has been now covered and efforts are on to clean up the site at the earliest. The US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster has also issued an apology for the incident, saying that the US stands against prejudice and discrimination of any type.
