ISLAMABAD: With no let up in coronavirus cases in the country, the ex-premier, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, on Monday was also tested positive for Covid-19.
Abbasi who is also senior vice president of opposition Pakistan Mulsim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and served as prime minister of Pakistan from August 2017 to May 2018 after his party leader Nawaz Sharif was de-seated by a court order in a corruption case, had been criticizing the government for not convening the National Assembly session, saying he would be responsible, if any member caught the virus.
But after being tested positive, the lawmaker from Murree quietly went into quarantine at his house in the capital.
Coronavirus cases have risen sharply in the country over the last two weeks since the lockdown was eased.
According to the official data, the Covid-19 cases have risen to 103,666, while 2,067 patients have already died including 67 deaths during the last 24 hours until Monday morning.
Some 34,355 patients have recovered so far.
PPI adds: A statement issued by the Railways Ministry confirmed that Sheikh Rashid has also been infected. The statement, however, said the Minister was not experiencing any symptoms. It said the Minister has gone into self-isolation at home for two weeks, as per recommendations by the doctors.
