Missing body of elderly COVID-19 patient found in toilet of a Maharashtra hospital

The body of an elderly woman Malati Nehete, who went missing on June 2, was found in a toilet cubicle of a Jalgaon district government hospital in Maharashtra, India on Wednesday.
Another member of the family, Tina Nehete, 60, also died at the same hospital as she waited for six hours for an ICU bed.
Malati, 82, was admitted in the hospital after she tested positive for coronavirus. Her body was found lying in the toilet cubicle several days after she went missing. None of the hospital authorities had gone looking for her, while they said Malati 'simply walked away', Indian media reported.
The cubicle door was only opened after patients in the ward who were using other cubicles in the toilet complained that they could no longer bear the stench. Reportedly, at least three patients with breathing difficulties have died while trying to go to the toilet.
The staff did not provide the patients bedpans as they were not keen on helping patients to the bathroom due to fear of coronavirus.
Following the incident, five officials of the hospital, including Dean Dr B S Khaire have been suspended.
