Qureshi asks India to stop human rights violations in IoK, review its behaviour

(Karachi) Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that India has continuously been targeting innocent people in Jammu Kashmir and it is time for it to review its behavior of violating the UN Security Council resolutions and human rights in the region.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Monday, he said that the Kashmiri people do not accept the unlawful move by Indian government of revoking the status of held valley. "None of India's neighbours are happy with it due to its nefarious designs and brutal acts."

Qureshi maintained India could not hide the events from the world that took place in Delhi.

He stated, "Pakistan has a lot of forums and ways to unveil the Indian designs, and it opts from them according to its priorities."

He challanged the Indian defence minister to hold a poll in Jammu Kashmir so the situation becomes clear what the Kashmiris want.

Earlier, Qureshi warned that the Indian government might launch false flag operations to attack Pakistan in order to divert attention from the domestic economic and political turmoil.

Situation in Occupied Kashmir took an ugly turn when India withdrew constitutional provisions on August 5 that gave Jammu and Kashmir more autonomy than any other Indian state.

In retaliation to Modi's government’s move, India flooded the region with additional troops, and imposed curfew-like restrictions to keep a lid on protests.

Although many curbs, including those on movement have been eased, mobile telephone and internet connections in the Kashmir valley, home to around seven million people, remain cut off.

New Delhi insists that its move in August was essential to integrate Kashmir fully into India and bring development to the Himalayan region, but there is anger and discontent among many locals over the decision.

Despite the curbs, Kashmiris have come out on to the streets, and many shops and other commercial establishments in the held valley have remained mostly shuttered in protests against the withdrawal of the special status.
