LAHORE: The novel coronavirus is continuing unabated and playing havoc with the lives of the patients, as with 63 more fatalities, in the last 24 hours, the death toll of Covid-19 across the province has reached to 1,265.

As per data made available to Business Recorder, the City of Lahore, whose some parts are under smart lockdown, is worst hit with 31924 Covid-19 cases and 471 deaths so far.

During the last 24 hours, 9,655 corona tests were conducted across the province taking the tally of tests so far conducted to 396,917.

As per data made available, about 2,625 contacts of coronavirus positive were traced across the province out of whom 1,658 were tested, but only 11 were tested positive during the last 24 hours. So far, 136604 contacts were traced and tested out of which 7061 were found positive of the virus.

There are 983 healthcare workers including doctors across the province who were tested positive of coronavirus.

With 1,540 new cases over the last 24 hours, the Punjab has so far reported 61,678 cases which is the second-highest in all provinces and territories in Pakistan.

As per data, about 2,168 more people have recovered from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recovered cases in Pakistan to 61,383. So far, 37.18 per cent out of the total number of coronavirus patients have recovered.

With surge in coronavirus cases, the management of different hospitals is enhancing the number of HDUs and ICUs. In Lahore General Hospital, additional 45-bed High Dependency Units (HDUs) and Intensive Care Units (ICUs) have been added.

As many as 35-bed HDUs and 10-bed ICUs are made available to provide maximum medical care to corona patients. Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute and Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Prof Al-freed Zafar further said that in the light of SOPs of the Punjab government, human and financial resources are being spent on the treatment of patients infected with coronavirus.

On the other hand, the services of 100 rescue paramedics have been placed in Mayo Hospital to help facilitate Mayo Hospital administration to deal with Covid-19 patients.

These rescue paramedics were trained in collaboration with doctors and nurses of Mayo hospital at Lahore Expo Corona Isolation Centre for the management of Corona patients. They also practiced donning, doffing, chest physiotherapy, use of a ventilator, cardio pulmonary resuscitation and bed nursing care of serious corona patients at the Expo Corona Isolation Centre.
