ISLAMABAD: Ex-Chairman Higher Education Commission Prof. Dr Atta ur Rehman urged on Wednesday the Higher Education Commission (HEC) should not be subject of the provinces and remain intact.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said this decision of the concerned authorities would devalue its degrees and turn them into the pieces of papers.
He explained the HEC's degrees were initially went through different stages of degree verification process ,a federal Regulatory authority, than finaly recognized by the Asian Network Quality Specification. He said in case it will be merged with the cabinet division its autonomy would be lost.
Dr Atta said the students prefers degrees which are internationally recognized so this decision should be reverted to enhance positive impact on education.
He also differed with the amount of 30 to 40 million allocated to the provinces for this purpose.
"A Committee has been established under the chairmanship of Senator Raza Rabbani to work under this limited amount, he added.
On the other hand students of HEC has announced country wide protest against this decision of transfering the Higher Education Commission to the Provinces.
