shahbaz-sharifKARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has rejected creation of the Bahawalpur South Punjab province, the media reported on Monday.

Chief Minster Punjab Shahbaz Sharif said that the Bahawalpur South Punjab province is an eyewash, adding, the government is not serious about making the province.

At a press conference, leader of the Opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that the process would be carried through amendments to the bill, which the government will table in parliament for creation of "Bahawalpur Janoobi Punjab".

However, PML-N has boycotted the parliamentary commission overseeing creation of new provinces in Punjab citing that the focus is only on one province and has said that it there was insufficient representation from the Punjab, adding, it wants a national commission to take up creation of new provinces.

Nisar said, the commission should look into management of resources for the province. Bahawalpur city would be capital of the new province and the assembly will be within the city, he added.

Carving out a new province out of Punjab may create differences among the federating units over resources, sources said.
