aa12LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial Tuesday disposed of a petition challenging possible conversion of solid waste management department of City District Government Faisalabad (CDGF) into a private company.

The petition was filed by Nazir Inayet and others through counsel Tuffzal Rizvi.

Earlier, a provincial law officer appeared before the court and submitted that the committee constituted by the chief minister to review the matter has scraped the proposal for privatization of solid waste management of CDGF and others.

After hearing the arguments, the chief justice disposed of the matter as the petition has become infructuous.

The petitioners' through their petition questioned the possible conversion of SWM department of CDGF into a private company.

They submitted that it would not only raise the expenditures but would also create job insecurity among employees.

They said that similar privatization was done in solid waste management department of City District Government Lahore (CDGL) which raised the cost from 3.5 billion to 8 billion and these funds were being spent without any audit.

They mentioned that the expenditures of SWM department of CDGF would also rise to 4 billion from 1 billion after privatization.

They pleaded the court to stay the conversion of Solid Waste Management department of CDGF as it was against rules.

Meanwhile, the chief justice also dismissed petition questioning the conversion of SWM department of CDGL into a private company named Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) for non-prosecution.
