PESHAWAR: Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain Tuesday rejected news appeared in a section of the press that ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan was a tax defaulter and as such he could not meet the criteria of contesting elections under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
The President of Awami National Party (ANP) is a 'Zamindar' (farmer) and there is nothing against him vis a vis income tax that can bar him from contesting elections, Iftikhar told media men after addressing a function here at Nishtar Hall arranged by the departments of Information, Culture, Transport and IPC to bade him farewell.
Asfandyar Wali Khan is not a tax defaulter and the media men should have first verified the facts before publication of such a news against the national leader, he added.
The KP Information Minister said that March 16 would be the last day of the provincial assembly and consultations were underway between the Chief Minister and leader of opposition for bringing a consensual caretaker setup in the province. The CM met the leader of opposition on Tuesday in this regard, he added.
He said in case of deadlock over the caretaker setup, the matter would be referred to a joint committee to be represented by four members each of the treasury and opposition benches, which would be bound to take a decision in three days time.
If this committee also failed in nominating consensual caretaker chief minister, then four names would be sent to Election Commission of Pakistan for selecting one among them for the said slot.
However, in case of deadlock the entire process of installing the new caretaker setup in the province would be completed by March 24.
