KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), chief Altaf Hussain has said that the PPP government would not have been able to complete even four months, let alone full five years, if the MQM had not extended unshakable support to it.
He said that the democratic process in the country would have also suffered if the MQM had withdrawn its support.
The MQM chief was talking to the Rabita Committee of his party in London and Pakistan, said a statement issued by MQM here on Friday.
Altaf Hussain said that the MQM was making practical efforts for the rights of the common people, uprooting the feudal system and eliminating the culture of dynastic politics prevailing in the country.
He said that empowering the people belonging to poor and middle classes was the mainstay of the struggle of the MQM.
He said, "Although we have not achieved success in our struggle yet I pay tribute to the Rabita Committee, elected representatives and office-bearers and workers of the MQM for making sincere efforts for establishing a just system in Pakistan in which the rich and the poor had equal rights. I commend them for making genuine efforts to eliminate the discrimination in every department of life."
He said that the current government has completed its five years for which the MQM leaders, workers and even he had to swallow bitters pills but supported the democratic process.
It was because of this support that the government was able to complete its term of five years, he added.
Altaf said that the PPP government could not have completed its tenure if the MQM had not given its support in every difficult time.
He said that our struggle centres on bringing a true and real democracy in the country and we will continue our struggle.
We will continue our struggle and work for eliminating the feudal system and corrupt political culture, he said.
Altaf Hussain appealed to the younger generation, students, workers, labourers, lawyers, doctors and engineers to come forward and make the MQM successful by casting their votes in its favour and giving MQM a chance.
Altaf Hussain urged the Rabita Committee to continue their struggle for achieving the objectives. A day would come when the efforts would be rewarded and the MQM would become successful, he concluded.
