KARACHI: What do Bollywood’s hottest ladies Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu and Pakistan’s attention-seeking Veena Malik have in common with Pakistan’s politicians? Allegedly, they are all devotees of the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.
President Asif Ali Zardari made a pilgrimage to Ajmer Sharif last April and had lunch with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Clothed modestly, Katrina Kaif was spotted at the site in Rajasthan more than once in the past few years. May be that explains all her success!
Two weeks ago, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf paid homage to the shrine with his family. So did Veena Malik. After breaking the Guinness Record for highest number of kisses in a minute, she decided to make a religious pilgrimage, covered in traditional outfit, and prayed for the success of her much-awaited “Zindagi 50 50.”
Bipasha Basu joined the ranks of the saint’s celebrity devotees when she went there on Saturday. Clad in green shalwar kameez with a velvet dupatta on her head, she carried a basket of roses on her way to the shrine. She and director Suparn Verma both went there together to pray for his upcoming horror film “Aatma”, which Bipasha admits has made her a bit of an insomniac.
In line with the site’s religious significance coupled with these recent appearances, the shrine will continue to attract devotees from the common man to celebrities.
