KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari has announced that the general election will be held on My 11, the media reported on Wednesday.
President Zardari has signed the summary sent by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to announce a suitable date for election in the country.
This is the first time that the National Assembly has completed its full five year term under civilian rule.
Whether provincial elections will also be held on May 11 is not clear.
It may be mentioned that a parliamentary committee has been set up to pick a caretaker chief minister by Friday after the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) could not agree on a name by Tuesday.
