imageISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the Former President Pervaiz Musharraf to appear in the court through counsel or in person in the next hearing.

The Supreme Court also directed Secretary Interior (SI) to ensure Musharraf's presence in the country, by adding his name on the Exit Control List (ECL) till the outcome of the treason case agaist him.

A two-judge bench comprising Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif also directed Inspector General (IG) Police Islamabad and IG of all four Provinces to ensure implementation of the apex court's order.

The bench also directed Federal Government to summit its stance over the issue till tomorrow, and summoned a report from the SI regaeding placing Musharraf's name in the ECL.

During course of the proceedings, Justice Khilji Arif remarked that, it is understood as mentioned in the Constitution of Pakistan whoever violates the constitution would be charged under Article 6 and would be treason.

Hamid Khan the counsel for President Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCB) Taufiq Asif a petitioner argued that according to the 1973 Treason Law, the Federal Government has to initiate action against Musharraf for the trial.

He further said that, On January 23, 2012 the Senate approved a resolution against Musharraf, despite the courts order and Senate resolution, the former President had not been arrested yet, he added.

AK Dogar the counsel for Maulvi Iqbal Haider said that Musharraf had imposed emergency in the country and till the time being the constitution was suspended, he violated the constitution, and action should be taken against him.

Dogar further said that he should be treated as a convicted person not an accused after the apex court July 31 verdict terming his action null and void. But functionaries were treating him as a VVIP, he added.

Meanwhile, Chuadary Muhammad Ikraam the counsel for Haqeem Kundi said, no one should be above the law, whoever he may be, he added.

Ikraam stated that all abettors in imposing emergency should also be summoned and tried.

Jawad S Khawaja remarked that it is responsibility of the courts to ensure the requirements of justice were being fulfilled. Later, issuing notice to the General Pervaiz Musharraf, the bench adjourned the hearing till April 9.
