TORONTO: Canada's main stock index closed sharply higher on Monday, as the country's heavyweight banks and energy companies notched decent gains after Italy ended months of political uncertainty with the formation of a coalition government.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index unofficially closed up 92.47 points, or 0.76 percent, at 12,312.67.
