Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said the meeting was held here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, after the luncheon banquet hosted for Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
The President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was also invited among other political leaders to the President House for the event.
The President congratulated Nawaz Sharif on the victory in elections and said that he would welcome the new government upon its formation and also wished him the best of luck.
He expressed confidence that after political transition the new government would successfully address the problems and issues facing the country.
The President said that the nation, all political parties and democratic forces of civil society deserved to be complimented for the peaceful democratic transition which was taking place for the first time in the history of the country.
President Zardari thanked Nawaz Sharif for accepting the luncheon invitation hosted in honour of the Chinese Premier.
The spokesperson said that overall situation in the country and issues relating to the run-up to transition also came under discussion.
Senator Ishaq Dar and Senator Pervaz Rasheed also later joined the meeting.
