PESHAWAR: Central General Secretary and Parliamentary Leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pervez Khan Khattak was elected as 16th Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
"Pervez Khattak has secured 84 votes while Maulana Lutfur Rehman of JUI_F bagged 37 votes.
Thus, Pervez Khan Khattak has secured majority votes of the members of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and was elected as Chief Minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa," Asad Qaiser, Speaker KP Assembly announced election results for the office of Chief Minister held here at KP Assembly hall.
Pervez Khattak was supported by MPAs of Qumi Watan Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan People's Party, All Pakistan Muslim League and Awami Jamhroi Itehad.
The voting was held under division method.
PML-N candidate Wajiuzman withdrew his candidature ahead of election for CM office.
The newly elected Chief Minister Pervez Khattak will take oath of his office as 16th Chief Minister of KP at 6pm today at Governor House.
PML-N parliamentary leader, Sardar Mehtab Khan has congratulated Pervez Khattak.
He said smooth transition of power from one civilian elected government to another was a historic day in the country's parliamentary history.
