imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif Saturday said that all out efforts were being made to reduce duration of power load-shedding to provide relief to the masses.

Talking to media persons here before taking charge of the ministry, he reiterated that all available resources would be utilized to provide maximum relief to the people from the menace of power load-shedding.

He said that short, medium and long terms projects would be launched to cope with power crisis.

The minister said that professional and competent persons would be appointed purely on merit in all attached departments and urged the media to pinpoint flaws to ensure transparency.

Replying to a query, the minister said that load-shedding was a chronic issue and concrete strategy would be devised to end it.

He said that the past government did nothing to address the issue during the last five years.

To another question, Asif said that provision of smooth electricity to the industries was top priority adding that special attention would be given to generate electricity from alternate cheap sources including hydel and coal etc.

The minister said that no dead line would be given to end the load- shedding, however, the government was serious and every steps would be taken to end the crisis.
