KARACHI: Shahrukh Jatoi who was awarded death sentence in Shahzeb murder case, has challenged his conviction in the Sindh High Court (SHC).
It should be mentioned that Shahrukh Jatoi and his accomplice Siraj Talpur were awarded death sentence four days back.
Jatoi’s counsel Shaukat Zuberi filed an appeal in the SHC, pleading to the court to void the death sentence and grant acquittal in the case.
Shahzeb, the only son of DSP Aurangzeb, was shot dead in December last year in Defence area of Karachi over a petty dispute.
Youths and the civil society took to streets in Karachi to spotlight the murder, prompting the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take a suo moto notice 10 days after the murder.
After several hearings of the case in the Supreme Court and ATC in Karachi, the ATC finally delivered its verdict on Friday six months after the cold-blooded murder.
The court also awarded death penalty to Siraj Talpur, another prime accused in the case, and life imprisonment to Sajjad Talpur and Murtaza Lashari who were also accused in the murder. They were also fined Rs0.5 million each.
