KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Friday chaired a meeting to review advance arrangements regarding monsoon rains.
Secretary Irrigation Babar Afandi briefed the meeting about the arrangements made by his department to cope with the situation which may arise due to monsoon rains in Sindh province.
He informed the meeting about the condition of protective bunds, LBOD and other rain nullahs in the province.
He said that 76 different schemes were approved after the last year's rains and floods in the province. Out of which 71 have been completed while remaining schemes would be completed by the end of June 2013.
He informed that repair of damaged protective bunds will provide protection to people from flood water.
He informed that de- silting of irrigation canals is required to maintain water flow while embankment of Pat Feeder, Shai and Naseer canals still required strengthing work.
The Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners also briefed the meeting about the pre- monsoon arrangements made by them in their respective areas.
The Chief Minister directed the concerned officials to remove all encroachments on the natural ways of water drainage.
He directed them to take all necessary measures keeping in view the previous experience of rains and floods during the monsoon season.
Sindh Chief Secretary informed the meeting that he had had several meetings with the heads of concerned departments regarding protection of people during onset of monsoon rains.
