ABU DHABI: Syria has received only one offer in its tender seeking 276,000 tonnes of white sugar, a source at the Syrian state agency looking to close the deal said on Sunday.
"No results have been announced yet but we are looking to close a deal, we have received only one bid," the official at the General Foreign Trade Organisation told Reuters.
The tender, which closed on Aug. 13, was seeking sugar packed in bags for shipment within 150 days after the opening of a letter of credit for the tender winner.
It was the second time the agency had sought the same amount of sugar after it failed to buy any sugar in a similar tender that closed July 16.
The official would not say when results for the tender would be announced.
Syria is looking to tap frozen bank accounts abroad to pay for the sugar.
Several Syrian government agencies have issued tenders in recent weeks for wheat, sugar and rice stating that payment would be made from frozen accounts with waivers obtained from countries that have imposed financial sanctions.
