ROTTERDAM: Soymeal on the European meals and feeds market was mostly firmer on Monday in anticipation that unfavourable weather could push prices up in Chicago when US markets reopen on Tuesday.
* Trading volumes were low while CBOT markets were closed due to the US Labor Day holiday.
* "Asking prices were generally higher as sellers took some protection in case Chicago decides to go up again on the possibility of dwindling soybean yields because of the weather. Buyers were not willing to pay those levels, giving the cash market a lackluster start of the week," one broker said.
* South American soymeal was offered between unchanged and $5 a tonne up from Friday, despite a mostly weaker close in Chicago soymeal futures ahead of the three-day weekend. No deals were reported.
* EU rapemeal was offered between flat and 5 euros per tonne up from Friday in sympathy with soymeal and because of stronger rapeseed futures.
