imageISLAMABAD: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) spokesman Kamran Zia has said that 1.5 million people were affected in the country due to rains and flood.

Talking to Radio Pakistan, Kamran Zia said rains and flood caused not only human misery but also damaged properties and corps.

He said over 1.46 acres land of corps have been destroyed and over 79,000 houses fully or partially damaged.

He informed that provincial relief agencies have distributed about 58,000 tents and other necessary item among the affected people.

"Over 200 villages were submerged and hundreds, most of the victims are from Punjab and Sindh, the two largest provinces of Pakistan", he maintained.

He said thousands of people settled in the traditional river beds and most vulnerable to be affected by the raging waters had been moved to safer places.

He added that more than 18,000 of them are living in relief camps while others have decided to take up shelters with their relatives.
