ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has called upon the government departments, civil society, media and others to enhance their efforts to address the issues of visually impaired persons and to undertake all possible measures to facilitate them lead a happy and independent life.
In his message on the occasion of International White Cane Safety Day, being observed on October 15, the President said that white cane is not a symbol of disability or impairment, but a sign of courage and bravery, symbol of invincible will to face challenges and adversities.
The International White Cane Safety Day, the President said is an occasion to renew our commitment towards fulfilling our social, moral and religious responsibilities and to gear up efforts to put in place legislative, administrative and infrastructural mechanisms, required to enable the people with special needs lead a better life.
The President reassured the people with visual disabilities that the government would continue taking all possible measures to protect their rights and to enable them lead a successful life.
"Let us join hands in augmenting the efforts of those who are facilitating these people. Let us contribute individually as well as collectively, in putting in place necessary mechanism and facilities that cater to special needs of visually impaired people," the President said.
