imageKARACHI: KMC Administrator Saqib Ahmed Soomro said four new important development projects are being initiated in different areas of Karachi during the current fiscal year.

The projects include three lane flyover each at Malir Halt and Malir-15, a flyover at Shaheen Complex Roundabout and the Madr-e- Jamhooriat Underpass near Mehran Hotel Intersection, he said.

He said this while addressing a meeting regarding provision of funds for projects of flyovers, roads and other development works to be initiated in the current financial year and their timely completion.

Director General Engineering Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Project Directors of various projects and other officers attended the meeting.

The Administrator said construction of Madr-e-Jamhooriat Underpass near Mehran Hotel Roundabout and Shahhed Benazir Bhutto Flyover at the Shaheen Complex Roundabout was urgently required as both these locations are facing lot of traffic pressure which caused problems for the citizens.

He said that the completion time for these projects was eight months and all efforts are being made to finish this work on time.

The Madr-e-Jamhooriat Underpass near Mehran Hotel which would cost Rs. 459 million will be used by the traffic between Karachi Cantonment Railway Station and Saddar, he said.

He said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Flyover will be constructed at Shaheen Complex Roundabout with an estimated cost of Rs. 536 million.

Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Awais Muzaffar has already laid the foundation stone for these projects which were funded by Government of Sindh.

The cost of Malir Halt Flyover would be Rs. 495.649 million and this bridge will be 411 metres long with both of its ramps having 472 metres long fencing wall and a total of 14 spans.

Director General Engineering Niaz Ahmed Soomro gave a detailed briefing on this occasion regarding planning of above projects.

He said the Malir Halt and Malir-15 Flyovers were planned after completion of Jinnah Terminal Flyover at Sharea Faisal to provide more convenience to traffic plying on and around these locations.

Saqib Ahmed Soomro directed the officers to ensure immediate start of work on those projects for which funds were already allocated in the current fiscal year and finish the ongoing works as soon as possible.
