imageISLAMABAD: The new Grey Traffic Monitoring System installed to monitor Internet Protocol (IP) bandwidth has blocked some 42,000 IP addresses as part of its measures to curb grey telephony.

The new monitoring system, operational since last month has the capability to automatically block the IPs which are not in PTA's whitelist.

Chairman, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Dr. Ismail Shah informed this in a meeting which was chaired by Minister of State for Information Technology, Ms. Anusha Rahman on Friday.

The meeting held here to review Gray Trafficking Monitoring was also attended by Secretary IT, Akhlaq A. Tarar and Additional Secretary IT, Azmat Ranjha.

The Minister directed that all companies authorized to bring international incoming calls to Pakistan be asked to get their IP addresses whitelisted through PTA immediately to use services without any interruption.

She further directed that if IP addresses were not reported to PTA for whitelisting as per prescribed procedure, they should be blocked without and further notice.

Moreover, legal action should also be initiated against the companies involved in use of IP addresses for termination of any sort of illegal international incoming calls as per provision of laws.

In this context, all IP addresses which are not registered with PTA would be considered as black listed and shall be blocked with immediate effect.

The IP addresses of authorized telecom users like International Clearing House (ICH), Cell Centers an Video Conferencing etc. are being whitelisted in the monitoring system.
