ADELAIDE: Bowling all-rounder Tim Bresnan has been recalled to the England squad after struggling with injury and is in contention for the second Test against Australia this week, officials said Tuesday.
The England Cricket Board said the hard-working seamer, who suffered a stress fracture of his lower back in August, was now fit -- a boon for the tourists who lost the first Ashes Test in Brisbane by 381 runs.
"Tim Bresnan has been added to England's Ashes squad, and is in the reckoning to play in the second Test at Adelaide this week," the ECB said on its website.
His availability is a welcome boost for England whose third seamer Chris Tremlett failed to impress at the Gabba.
Bresnan has taken 67 wickets in 21 Tests and boosted his claim for a recall after claiming four wickets and a half-century for a development team in Brisbane last week.
