ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission (ECP) of Pakistan Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan on Wednesday said that biometric system would be introduced in local bodies elections of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Talking to media outside the Parliament House, he said the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has requested the Election Commission of Pakistan for the introduction of biometric system for the local bodies elections.
"We will be more than happy to introduce biometric system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local bodies election as this would make the election process transparent," he added.
He said National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has developed biometric system and demonstration of the system would be held next week.
The Secretary said NADRA has thumb impressions of the people in its database and on the day of polling voters' thumbs will be verified before they cast their vote.
To a question, he said local bodies election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be held in February.
"We have to hold elections before February 28 in the province," he added.
