ISLAMABAD: North-bound section of Lyari Expressway Project has not yet been completed due to non-handing over of Right of Way (RoW) by City District Government Karachi (CDGK).
An official of National Highway Authority (NHA) said Friday that the South-bound of Lyari Expressway has been opened to traffic since 2010 as RoW was made available to NHA.
He said that Expressway spans from Sohrab Goth in the north to Mauripur in the south. The project, he added, would considerably curtail the travel time and reduce traffic congestion and provide environment friendly route.
The completion of the project will also provide safety to public life and property during the floods.
It is worth mentioning that the Lyari Expressway project was launched in May 2002 with the aim of serving as a commuting artery connecting Mauripur Road and the Super Highway and to alleviate the burden of traffic plying between Karachi Port and the Super Highway heading upcountry.
The 16.5 km long 8-lane expressway will comprise four lanes on both sides, with two interchanges, five overpasses and five underpasses. Moreover, two lanes each will be constructed on either bank of the Lyari River.
