Weekly inflation down 0.12pc over previous week
ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on May 26, for the lowest income group up to Rs3,000, has registered a nominal decrease of 0.12 percent over the previous week.
The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 298.88 points as against 299.24 points registered in the previous week, according provisional figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000 2001=100 covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
SPI for the combined group also registered decrease of 0.11 percent as it went down from 287.65 points in the previous week to 287.34 points in the week under review.
As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 14.83
percent.
As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups ranging from Rs.3001 5000, Rs.5001 12000 and above Rs.12000 decreased by 0.13 percent, 0.13 percent and 0.11 percent respectively.
During the week under review average prices of 13 items registered decrease, while that of 16 items increase with the remaining 24 items' prices unchanged.
The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included onions, LPG (11 kg cylender), masoor pulse (washed), tomatoes, garlic, egg hen (farm), chicken (farm), wheat flour (average quality), potatoes, mash pulse (washed), gram pulse (washed), red chillies and wheat (average quality).
The items which registered increase in their prices included match box, bananas, bath soap, gur, lawn, vegetable ghee (loose), salt (powdered), sugar, rice basmati (broken), kerosene, firewood, rice (irri-6), mustard oil, moong pulse (washed), beef and curd.
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included mutton, bread plain (mid size), milk (fresh), milk (powdered), vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), tea (packet), tea (prepared), cooked beef, cooked dal, cigarettes, coarse latha, voil (printed), shirting, sandal (gents), sandal (ladies), chappal, electricity bulb (60wats), washing soap, gas charges (up to 3.3719 MMBTU), electricity charges (1-100 unit), petrol, diesel and telephone local call.
