KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that Sindh province is rich in natural resources of energy including coal, wind and solar and it needs investment to generate energy in addition to agriculture sector, which is the backbone of country and the main source of bread for over 70 percent of the population.
He was talking to High Commissioner of Canada, Greg Giokas who called on to him Thursday at CM House Karachi, said a statement.
The CM Sindh said that "we are at the tail of the River Indus and due to this we are facing shortage of water".
He said that the water is oxygen and energy for Agriculture and human being, without which no one can survive.
He told the Canadian High Commissioner: "we have a very fertile land, for horticulture and export of Agro based output not only benefit our growers but other countries as well for which technical assistance and expertise in needed to our growers".
The CM Sindh said that fertility of our land can be gauged from this face that despite of the flood and heavy rains in 2010 and 2011 we had surplus yield of different crops and had exported our home-grown rice to many countries.
In current year too we are growing cash crops of cotton and sugar cane as we have much better yield per acre than other provinces including the Punjab but still yet there is room of improvement to get maximum output, he added.
He said that before our government wheat was imported but as we came in power despite droughts, floods and heavy rains, we did exported wheat, While sharing his thoughts Greg Giokas told the CM Sindh that Canada is very rich in Agriculture sector and they possess very broad range of expertise to harvest per acre yield despite water shortage.
He said that he would like to see a Conference on Agriculture in Sindh where they would share their knowledge and skills about the crops and cultivation and related other specialties.
He said that he really like the Mango of Sindh and remarked that Sindhi Mango could be a brand-leader from Pakistan on the international market if properly exported and systematically marketed.
The CM Sindh welcomed the idea of holding a conference on Agriculture and added that we have Sindh Seed Corporation on govt side and, Sindh Aabadgar Board and Agriculture Chamber of Agriculture non govt side bodies which would be asked to share their problems and solutions in the conference.
