PARIS: Auto sales in France picked up in January, increasing by 0.5 percent from the figure in same month last year to 125,477 vehicles, with French carmakers enjoying strong gains, data showed on Monday.
Troubled PSA Peugeot Citroen recorded a 6.0-percent gain to 40,127 vehicles, while Renault saw its sales climb 12.4 percent to 34,151, according to registration data compiled by the CCFA trade association.
Car analysts at BNP Paribas' Cetelem unit said French carmakers benefited from "refreshed product ranges in the segments which are selling well", in particular compacts and small SUVs.
French auto sales jumped by 9.4 percent in December, but that was not enough to prevent the sector registering a 15-year low at 1.79 vehicles sold.
