imageLAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Wednesday informed the Lahore High Court that Lady Willingdon Hospital (LWH) was not being demolished.

A LDA counsel submitted the authority's reply before Justice Abdul Sattar Asghar who was hearing the petitions filed by Young Doctors Association and PTI leader Yasmin Rashid challenging the demolition of LWH.

LDA's counsel Waqar A Sheikh submitted that the petitions against demolition of the hospital were filed on the basis of speculation that the hospital was being demolished. However, it is not true, he said and added that only a small part of hospital will be acquired for the construction of Azadi Chowk project.

He maintained that the petitions were not maintainable and pleaded to dismiss them.

However, the petitioner's counsel pointed out newspaper reports about demolition of hospital.

But, the LDA's counsel said that Hospital land belongs to the Punjab government. He said that hospital total land was about 120 kanals and only two kanals and 11 marlas land would be acquired for the project. He clarified that a kitchen and a washroom facility would be affected only which would be constructed on another location inside hospital. The LDA's counsel also presented a drawing of the project.

The court adjourning the matter till February 17 extended the stay against hospital demolition. The court also directed petitioners' counsel to file replication in the matter.
