imageISLAMABAD: Secretary Economic Affairs Nargis Sethi on Wednesday said that government is launching different power projects to meet growing demand of energy in the country.

She said that Gaddani and Jamshoro power plants will start functioning in the next four years time. She said that imported and Thar coal would be utilized in these power plants to provide cheap electricity in the country.

Talking to Pakistan Television, she said that modern technology would be introduced in completing these projects for protecting environment of the area. She said that local people would have the job opportunities after launching the projects.

Chief Gaddani Power Park, Nargis Sethi said that all necessary facilities including education, health and accommodation would be provided in the area so that the working staff could perform their duties without any trouble. She said that Jamshoro power plant would produce 1320 mega watt electricity from coal.

Nargis Sethi said that China is helping Pakistan in the power sectors to ensure pollution free environment.

She said that China is also making a 50 kilometer cycling track in the federal capital to further strengthen relations with Pakistan.

Secretary Economic Affairs said that several other power projects including Diamer-Bhasha and Dasu dams would also be constructed to generate energy for meeting future demand in the country.

Replying to a question she said that there is need to streamline the affairs in the billing, meter reading and line losses system to facilitate the masses.

She said the government is making efforts to ensure good governance and for this, all important measures are being taken to achieve the objectives.

To another question she said that international agencies are showing confidence in the dynamic policies of the present government, adding that the agencies are providing financial assistance to complete the power projects in Pakistan.

She said that present government is also working on the solar, wind and other alternative resources to produce energy.
