imageISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday inaugurated "Sohni Dharti" exhibition which showcased the original historical documents, vintage photographs of the Pakistan movement and a wide range of artwork of painting and sculpture of the leading Pakistani artists.

Upon his arrival at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA), the President was warmly received by secretary Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Dr Nazir Saeed, Dr Murtaza Jaferi, Principal National Council of Arts and other officials.

The President inaugurated the major arts exhibition of the National Council of Arts by cutting the red ribbon and took round of the art galleries. The exhibition of art and archival photographs marked the 74th anniversary of the passing of Pakistan resolution on 23rd March 1940.

The President evinced keen interest in the rare original documents and vintage photographs of the Pakistan movement.

He was briefed about the historical documents of founding figures of Pakistan that were being displayed for the first time and containing British Indian passport of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, certificate of his enrollment as an advocate, images from his personal diary, a page from Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah's passport and original document of March 23 Resolution etc.

The President also showed keen interest in the historical pictures of Pakistan movement leaders displayed in the art gallery. He was also given briefing on the paintings of leading contemporary and past artists.

He lauded efforts of the notable Pakistan artists for their touch of class splashed on broader canvasses of their imagination and reflected through their exquisite masterpieces.

He observed that these artists and painters were not only promoting soft image of Pakistan but also creating greater awareness among the masses about various aspects for which they deserved accolades.

Principal of National Council of Arts, Dr Murtaza Jafri also highlighted the main characteristics of various pieces of arts ranging from exquisite black and while duotone to colourful art works of myriad artists.

The exhibition under the National Council of Arts constitutes an unprecedented gathering of the most significant works of art to be made in Pakistan over the past seven decades, the culmination of a quest to capture the country's essence visually. The paintings contained master works of Haji Muhammad Sharif, Abdur Rehman Chughtai, Ustad Allah Bux, Sadequain, Mian Ijaz ul Hassan, Shakir Ali, Saeed Akhtar, Isamil Gulgee and other renowned genius masters.
