CHICAGO: US wheat futures rallied on Wednesday, with K.C. hard red winter wheat climbing 1.3 percent to its highest level since March 2013, on reports of poor crop conditions in Kansas fields, traders said.
K.C. wheat, which has risen 10.3 percent during seven consecutive positive trading sessions, led MGEX spring wheat and Chicago Board of Trade soft red winter wheat higher.
The Wheat Quality Council's annual tour of Kansas showed yield prospects for the crop in the northern part of the state were the worst in 13 years.
Yields in southwest Kansas fields were roughly in line with a year ago but in need of rain to reach their full potential.
Analysts were expecting the weekly US Agriculture Department report on Thursday morning to show old-crop wheat export sales in a range from 150,000 to 350,000 tonnes. New-crop export sales were forecast between 250,000 and 450,000 tonnes.
