ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League (N) Chief Coordinator Muhammad Siddiq-ul-Farooq said that PML-N accommodated Sheikh Rashid, Aftab Ahmed Sherpao and Muhammad Ejazul Haq in the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms despite having majority to keep 15 of its members.
The PML-N government showed goodwill gesture by voluntarily reducing its representation on the committee to 12 to accommodate three more opposition legislators, he said while talking to APP on Thursday.
Siddiq-ul-Farooq said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) despite having comfortable majority in the National Assembly wanted reforms with consensus, adding the gesture of giving representation to other parties should be acknowledged by the opposition.
The 33-member parliamentary committee includes 22 members of National Assembly and 11 from Senate. Ten legislators are taken from opposition parties.
He said formation of the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms by the government was a welcome step to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in future.
He said it was time to work jointly for the welfare of country by setting aside differences.
Confrontational politics was neither in the country's favour nor in any person's.
All political parties wanted electoral reforms, which could not be introduced by staging sit-ins and agitation, he added.
The PML-N leader said formation of the parliamentary committee was a vital step for devising a comprehensive package of electoral reforms.
