HYDERABAD: First downpour of monsoon over Hyderabad and suburb areas leaves water stranding on roads and streets while residents of southern Sindh had to experienced nine hour long major power breakdown since restoration of electric supply to Karachi and HESCO region.
As a result of downpour, the 450 MVA Power Transformer of 500 KV Grid Station of National Transmission and Dispatch Company Jamshoro caught fire resulting stoppage of power supply to Karachi and 12 districts of the Region of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), the HESCO spokesman said.
He informed that after hectic struggle, the fire of the power transformer brought under control.
According to Met Office, 22 millimetre rainfall was recorded in city areas of Hyderabad while at the Airport the rainfall was recorded as 16 millimetres.
As a result of rainfall, the low lying areas of Hyderabad City, Latifabad and Qasimabad Talukas have been submerged with rainwater and the management concerned making efforts to drain out the standing rainwater.
Later, the engineers replaced the system and restored the power supply to Karachi and HESCO Region after nine hours struggle, he said. The nine hours long power breakdown also caused the stoppage of supply of water as a result of which the people face great inconvenience particularly on the day of Jummat-ul-Wida.
