imageKARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain on Thursday appealed Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) Leader Tahirul Qadri and his followers to make their long march peaceful and do not cross zero point in Islamabad and refrain from entering into red zone area of the capital city.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Altaf Hussain said that governor Punjab, governor Sindh and some members of federal cabinet tried to resolve the matter of removing barricades from Model Town in Lahore and finally succeeded in their efforts on which the federal and the Punjab government permitted Tahirul Qadri to take out his long march peacefully.

The MQM chief said that the federal government showed open heartedness and wisdom in permitting Qadri for the march and now it was the responsibility of Tahirul Qadri and his supporters to take care of all those who tried to resolve this matter through reconciliation.

Earlier, after the intervention of MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and efforts being made by Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar and Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad, the federal and Punjab governments agreed to permit Tahirul Qadri to take out his long march.

It is pertinent to mention here that a day before, it emerged that government would not allow Tahirul Qadri to take out his long march from Model Town in Lahore and thus a clash like situation could be created in the area.

After the emergence of this situation, MQM Chief Altaf Hussain contacted governor Punjab and asked him to permit Tahirul Qadri to take out his march and avoid clash like situation.

Hussain also contacted governor Sindh to play his role and convey message to federal authorities to resolve this matter peacefully through talks.

The MQM chief also repeatedly contacted Tahirul Qadri and convinced him to talk to government authorities on which Qadri agreed to talk to government officials.

The governor Punjab and governor Sindh contacted Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chauhdry Nisar Ali Khan and other officials and conveyed them the message of Altaf Hussain.

The contacts between the government officials, MQM chief and Tahirul Qadri continued till August 14 afternoon and after continued efforts, the government allowed Qadri to take out his march.

Governor Punjab formally informed Hussain regarding the permission and told Altaf Hussain that his efforts clearly show that the MQM chief has proved his patriotism and willingness for peace in the country.

Hussain also applauded efforts of the governor Sindh and governor Punjab to avert any untoward situation.
