Lahore High Court justice Shams Mahmood Mirza has dismissed a petition filed by a local resident Ifhikhar Ahmed to stop screening of Indian movie ‘Haider’ in Pakistani cinemas.
According to media reports, Lahore High Court Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza said to petitioner Iftikar Ahmed, “This is not the right forum. The petitioner should better approach the censor board”.
Petitioner Iftikhar Ahmad said, Film ‘Haider’ challenged the ideology of Pakistan and the Two-Nation Theory. It was also aimed to defame Pakistan’s army. He also said the film had objectionable scenes and should not be exhibited in cinemas.
‘Haider’ based on the Shakespeare ‘Hamlet’ amidst the insurgency hit Kashmir conflicts of 1995 and civilian disappearances.
'Haider' starring Shahid Kapoor Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu, Kay Kay Menon and Irrfan Khan got released last month. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, this is the third installment of Bhardwaj's Shakespearean trilogy after ‘Maqbool’ (2003) and ‘Omkara’ (2006).
