imageMULTAN: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif will inaugurate different development projects in the city including Multan Tea House and Kidney Centre sometime in the on-going month of December, DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal said on Monday.

In a meeting with experts of an Italian construction company and district officers, the DCO said that an agreement has been finalized with the Italian government to restore the historical walled city of Multan as per its original shape but with modern facilities.

Historical buildings inside the walled city areas including Haram gate, Sarafa Bazaar, Bohar Gate and others would be restored and renovated. Restoration of buildings at Sarafa Bazaar from Musafir Khana to Sarena jewellers would begin in the first phase at a cost of Rs 70 million.

Gondal ordered officials to get advertisement published in newspapers to hire a consultant to begin work on the Walled City Project and added that its completion would be a gift for the people of Multan.

He said that Italian experts would also be consulted for development schemes at Qasim fort located on the highest mound in the city and supporting historical edifices.

The DCO disclosed that government has decided to change the site of museum project and new site would be selected soon.

It may be noted that earlier, over a century old clock tower building was selected for conversion into museum at Ghanta Ghar Chowk.

A sum of Rs 22.9 million has already been spent under the Rs 40 million Museum project including Rs 14.3 million for conversion of clock tower building into museum and rest for electricity system, CCTV camera, walk-through gates, air-conditioners, computers and purchase of antiquities.
