NAIROBI: The Kenyan shilling was barely changed on Monday with traders reporting thin volumes ahead of the festive holidays, and the stocks index was flat.
At the 1300 GMT market close, commercial banks quoted the shilling at 90.25/45 to the dollar, little changed from Friday's close at 90.35/45 to the dollar.
"Most businesses and NGOs (non-governmental organizations) closed on Friday. Christmas is around the corner, and there is minimal trading activity," said a trader at a major commercial bank.
On the Nairobi Securities Exchange, the main NSE-20 Share Index was roughly flat to close at 4910.32 points.
On the debt market, government bonds worth 2.80 billion shillings ($30.99 million) were traded, up from 2.03 billion shillings on Friday.
