UNITED NATIONS: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Friday welcomed as 'constructive' the recent meeting between foreign ministers of Pakistan and India aimed at resolving their outstanding problems.
"The Secretary-General welcomes the recent constructive discussions between the two Foreign Ministers," his spokesman Martin Nesirky said, referring to the talks between Pakistan's Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and her Indian counterpart S.M. Krishna in New Delhi on Wednesday.
"As he has done on occasions in the past, the Secretary-General encourages the two countries to resolve their outstanding issues through dialogue in the interest of the peoples of the two countries and regional security," the spokesman said in response to a question.
After Wednesday's meeting, the two foreign ministers vowed to continue their dialogue and announced additional Confidence Building Measures related to Kashmir, including increasing cross-LOC trading days and expanding travel to include tourism and religious aspects.
