ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid on Monday said Pakistan is a peace loving and democratic state and believes in peaceful co-existence of states and desires friendly and peaceful relations with all countries including its neighbors.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid said this during a meeting with Maleeha Lodhi, Pakistan's Permanent Representative designate to the UN who called on him here.
This he said, born out of the fact that Pakistan had been the largest contributor of troops for UN peacekeeping missions which speaks volumes of its commitment towards its efforts for peace and stability.
He said that Pakistan had rendered huge sacrifices in the war against terror which must be duly recognized.
The whole nation is united to root out the scourge of extremism and terrorism from the beloved soil and National Action Plan is fully supported by all democratic forces and Prime Minister himself is monitoring its implementation, the minister emphasized.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that Pakistan is a functional democracy where media is free, judiciary is fully independent and civil society highly dynamic and vibrant.
It was for the first time in the history of Pakistan that a peaceful democratic transition took place.
Besides, the PML-N government has also nurtured a unique political culture by accepting the political mandate of other political parties, the minister added.
Information Minister expressed his confidence, given the varied experience of Maleeha Lodhi, that she would represent Pakistan in the international fora more effectively.
He also extended best wishes to her before assuming her new responsibilities and hoped that she will be able to portray and project a positive image of Pakistan.
