imageMOSCOW: Russian oil refinery runs in January fell by 1.8 percent month-on-month or 104,583 barrels per day (bpd), data from the Energy Ministry and Reuters calculations showed.

Refineries processed 5.757 million barrels of crude oil per day in January versus 5.862 million in December.

In January, a significant part of Russian refineries decreased their capacity by 5-6 percent pressuring by falling crude oil prices and lower refinery margin.

Bad weather in the Black Sea ports in January put additional pressure on processing volumes, because regional refineries were forced to cut their refining runs due to delays in shipment of oil products.

So, Afipsky and Ilsky private refineries reduced their capacity in January by 23.6 percent and 19.1 percent, respectively.

State oil major Rosneft's Syzran refinery cut its runs by 11.6 percent due to maintenance at a crude distillation unit.

The company's Tuapse refinery restored its capacity in January by 35.4 percent to 800,500 tonnes (189,280 barrels per day) after a leak in a major pipeline delivering oil to the Black Sea port of Tuapse in December.

Total gasoline production at Russian refineries rose 0.8 percent in January to 115,523 tonnes per day, Reuter’s calculations showed.

Gas-oil production was down 0.1 percent month-on-month at 219,394 tonnes per day.

Fuel oil output fell 3.2 percent in January to 222,352 tonnes per day, while jet kerosene production fell by 2.1 percent to 23,435 tonnes per day.

Year-on-year January refinery runs were up by 1.2 percent, or 66,065 bpd.

Overall, January gasoline and gas oil output increased by 6.8 and 1.6 percent year-on-year respectively. Fuel oil production was down by 1.6 percent, while jet kerosene output declined 8.5 percent.
