Norway gunman back on island to describe massacre: Police

OSLO : Anders Behring Breivik, who last month carried out the most murderous attacks on Norwegian soil since World War I

anders-behring-breivikOSLO: Anders Behring Breivik, who last month carried out the most murderous attacks on Norwegian soil since World War II, has returned to the site of his island massacre to describe the killing, police said Sunday.

The 32-year-old rightwing extremist who on July 22 first set off a bomb outside government offices in Oslo then went on a shooting rampage on the nearby island of Utoeya, killing 77 people in all, was "interrogated by police on Utoeya" Saturday, Oslo police said in a statement without providing any further details.

The Verdens Gang (VG) daily meanwhile published pictures taken from a distance of a heavily guarded and shackled Behring Breivik, with a rope also tied around his waist, leading police around the island.

Just over three weeks ago, the ruling Labour Party's youth wing had been hosting a summer camp there when he suddenly opened fire, killing 69 people, many of them teenagers.

According to VG, Behring Breivik was taken across to the island shortly after 2:00 pm (1200 GMT) Saturday as police helicopters circled above.

The paper, which reported police had filmed the reconstruction and questioning on the island to use as evidence, cited the killer's lawyer, Geir Lippestad, saying his client remembers in detail each shot fired and each person he had killed.

Police were scheduled to provide more details about the island interrogation at a news conference Sunday afternoon.
