imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid Monday said fearing his defeat in Mandi Bahauddin bye-election, the PTI candidate had tried to disrupt and stop the polling process through violence.

The minister, in a statement, said that the candidate had resorted to whatever he had been trained by his party leader Imran Khan.

Similar game was played by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkha in recent local government (LG) elections, he added.

Pervaiz Rashid said the general election 2013 was held under the caretaker set-up while the LG polls 2015 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were held at a time when Imran Khan's PTI was in power there and maintenance of law and order was its prime responsibility.

Menawhile in another statement, the Information Minister said an amount of Rs 6.045 billion had been allocated as subsidy on wheat for Gilgit-Baltistan in the budget 2015-16.

This was a 100 per cent increase in subsidy over about Rs 3 billion of last year, he added.

Pervaiz Rashid said the news regarding abolishment of subsidy on wheat for GB was baseless and misleading. It was unfortunate that such concocted and misleading stories were being spread at a time when elections were being held for GB Legislative Assembly, he added.

These baseless rumours, he said, were being spread by some elements to get votes of the local people in the Gb assembly elections, but they could not befool the masses by such tactics.
