ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary for Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Division Rana Muhammad Afzal Wednesday called upon Asif Ali Zardari to withdraw his statement about Army.
Speaking in National Assembly during budget debate, he said, "statement of Asif Zardari about Army was very painful. Such a statement should not have come from a leader who is known for tolerance and reconciliation."
He said people always looked towards Army when there was calamity, elections or any threat to sovereignty or law and order problem.
"Army enjoys respect across the board; and when we all respect it, then why to issue such statements", he questioned.
He said Army was not in Karachi on permanent basis, but only performing a duty. It will be back after the task was accomplished, he added.
Rana Afzal said if anybody was fearing accountability, it did not mean that he started maligning a national institution.
"This statement is quite unacceptable and condemnable", he added.
"This statement has raised concerns in all quarters and Mr Zardari should withdraw this statement," he added.
